The Best Way to Bet on Horse Racing

Are you new to the exciting world of horse racing and wondering how to place bets?

Below I will review the various ways you can bet on horse racing and help you decide what method suits you as a bettor!

1. Betting at a Physical Racetrack

My first introduction to horse racing was at its finest - the physical racetrack. The traditional way to bet on horses and one of the most exciting. When I first went, it was a small local track where the main building was cement floors and basically a metal 'out building.' There were 3-4 people taking bets while they sold hot dogs, chips and had a deal for a six-pack of 8 oz Coors Light for $5. We found a table along the rails just beyond the finish line and enjoyed ourselves.

By betting at the racetrack, you immerse yourself in the thrilling atmosphere and experience the excitement firsthand. At the racetrack, you can place your bets at the betting windows and watch your chosen horse race around the track.

Although that first racetrack only allowed betting those racing locally, a lot of physical racetracks not only allow you to bet those horses racing there, but often times you can bet on races across the US - if not globally.

2. Betting at Remote Kiosks

Beyond the physical racetrack, my next experience was the Remote Kiosk. Many years back, we wanted to bet on the Kentucky Derby but didn't know how. I then learned of a local hotel bar that had a betting kiosk. Planning further ahead, we found out that they often times held a #kyderby party where they also had a number of ticket takers in addition to the kiosks. The races were on, you were surrounded by others who were there to watch the derby and you were able to enjoy your bets and the atmosphere, as well.

If you can't make it to the racetrack but still want to enjoy the thrill of betting on horse racing, remote kiosks located at off-track betting (OTB) facilities or sports bars, is often another good option. You can place your bets using the kiosk's user-friendly interface, which provides access to various racetracks and bet types. Remote kiosks offer the flexibility to bet on horse racing at your convenience.

3. Online Betting

As technology has evolved and things have gone more digital, online betting has become increasingly popular. What some may not realize, online betting on horse racing is viewed differently than a bettors regularly bet on football or basketball, and a lot of states allow for legal online horse race betting - even those who may not have legal sports betting.

Many reputable websites and platforms allow you to bet on horse racing from the comfort of your own home. Online betting offers a wide range of options, including different racetracks, bet types, and competitive odds. It also provides the convenience of placing bets anytime, anywhere, using your computer or mobile device.

4. Betting Apps

Along with online horse race betting, one is now able to bet on the go with betting apps as the perfect solution. These mobile applications are often times user-friendly interface and allow you to browse through races, select horses, and place bets. Betting apps also offer additional features such as live streaming of races, real-time updates, and access to expert tips. With a betting app, you can enjoy the excitement of horse racing wherever you are.

So, what is the best way to bet on horse racing? The answer depends on your personal preferences and circumstances. If you enjoy the atmosphere of a racetrack, betting at a physical location might be your best choice. Remote kiosks offer convenience for those who can't make it to the racetrack, while online betting and betting apps provide flexibility and accessibility to most of the public.

With that said, remember to do your research, understand the different bet types, and set a budget for your bets. Horse racing can be unpredictable, but with the right approach, it can also be a thrilling and potentially rewarding experience. Good luck!
